Wake Forest, NC Sedation Dental Office for 2018

Sedation Dentistry, also known as relaxation dentistry, or conscious sedation, is the practice of the possible ways to control a patient’s anxiety and pain during a dental visit without using a stronger method such as general anesthesia. This type of sedation allows a patient to breathe without assistance and respond to physical and verbal stimulations. There are two forms used by Dr. Wells; Inhalation Conscious Sedation and Enteral Conscious Sedation. These forms can cause amnesia and patients usually fall asleep.

Sedation Dentistry can be used when a patient needs a type of surgery or a lot of treatment. The sedation may be recommended if you do not want to or cannot come for multiple appointments in order to complete your dental work or if your dental work requires complex treatment over a long period of time.

However, Sedation Dentistry can also be useful for those who have trouble with visiting the dentist in general. If you experience extreme fear or anxiety when going to a dentist office and it prevents you from receiving dental work, Dr. Wells may prescribe Sedation Dentistry in order to calm you enough to properly perform the necessary care. Other issues, such as a sensitive gag reflex, physical conditions that affect movement, sensitive teeth, or a fear of needles can all be helped when needed with these mild forms of sedation.

If you feel you have these problems when you visit the dentist and think that you may benefit from sedation, Conscious Sedation may be right for you. Dr. Wells and his staff will have a meeting with you to find out if this treatment is right for you and your dental needs. Don’t hesitate to contact our office with any questions you may have in order to determine if Sedation Dentistry is a good choice for you!
