Will Getting a Tooth Extracted Affect My Summer Plans?

Will Getting a Tooth Extracted Affect My Summer Plans?

Summer is quickly approaching and we’re certain that you are ready to enjoy the warm weather, as well as the plans you have ahead! If you need a tooth extracted for whatever reason, you should know that this is typically a quick and pain-free process! As long as you take care of yourself during the healing process (following the extraction), you should be set to enjoy all of your summer plans.

Extractions:
At Wells Family Dental Group, we are pleased to offer same day tooth extractions to our patients with the help of new technology and techniques! Recovery typically takes a few days, which means if you have plans for the weekend, we could schedule you on a Monday and by Friday you should be feeling much better if you’re up to doing something not too strenuous.

What To Expect:
When you get an extraction, you can expect the process to run smoothly. First, you’ll receive an anesthetic, which numbs the targeted tooth or the one being extracted. Once you are fully numb, the dentist will use special tools to carefully loosen the tooth of interest. During this step, you might feel pressure from the tool, but you shouldn’t feel any pain. The tooth will loosen more and more and once it is extremely loose, forceps will be used to remove the tooth from your mouth.

Recovering from Your Extraction:
Success of your extraction stems from a positive, full recovery. This meaning that there are no complications, infection or dry socket following the extraction procedure.

Following your extraction, you will be given a set of instructions to strictly follow. After at least the first 24 hours of your extraction, you should be sure to do the following:

·Refrain from consuming any food or drink with extreme temperatures (very hot or very cold)
· Avoid using mouthwash or oral rinse unless specifically directed by the dentist
· Avoid smoking or using any tobacco products
· Avoid drinking alcohol
· Refrain from exercise or any strenuous activity
